Temeka Lomax is a native of rural East Texas where her family instilled in her a healthy respect for education and a strong sense of social justice, both of which have remained a large part of her personal and professional life well into adulthood. In her 28 years as an English teacher, Ms. Lomax has taught students with varying abilities and worked as a coach of teachers at the building and district levels. Her current position is that of District Secondary ELA Coordinator with the Indianapolis Public Schools. Advocating for students and teachers has long been a priority for her. As a teacher consultant with the Hoosier Writing Project and a board member of the Indiana Teachers of Writing, Ms. Lomax has worked tirelessly to support teachers and students across the state. In January of 2021, she began a term as a member of the School Board of Pike Township and is the current board secretary. As a member of the Indianapolis Professional Association (IPA), she has served as a member of the Board of Directors and as the Chair of the Education Task Force since 2012. Through the Education Task Force, she works to honor top graduating African American students in Marion County with book awards to assist them with their college journeys. Ms. Lomax also serves as an active member of Life Restoration Church where she holds a leadership position. She strives to focus on service to God, family, and community in all phases of life.
