Thonja (although “unconventionally” spelled, her name is pronounced Tonya) Nicholson is currently the Manager of Facilities and Administration with a business focused on innovation and incubation of new business, assisting in the growth of businesses and leading in micro lending within Indiana, located in Anderson.
Thonja is a dedicated community leader, providing many hours of her time and talents to local
organizations throughout the years. She has assisted many programs such as Habitat for Humanity and the Boy Scouts of America with fundraising activities, like writing grant applications.
Most recently, Thonja was Chair of the Taxpayers for Anderson Schools, a newly-formed political action committee. As Chair, she organized and assisted in promoting the Anderson Community School Corporations two referendums that were on the May 2018 ballot. Working closely with all stakeholders, both of the referendums passed by the votes from the community. The school corporation will now be able to update, improve, and build additional structures and have funds for operations and compensation, which will be for the betterment of the students coming through the Anderson Community School Corporation.
Thonja is also currently a member of her local Rotary Anderson Noon Club and has served on several committees. She pioneered the now-annual Flagship International Symposium, which brings together experts in International Relations with local community members and businesses.
Last year, Thonja assisted the White House and Vice President Pence’s team for a visit and speech by the Vice President. Honored to host the U.S. Vice President, she has a newfound respect for the men and women in the Secret Service and FBI. Their detailed preparation and organization are immaculate, which protects all of the participants.
Thonja is also a member of Northview Church, Anderson Campus, and is heavily involved with their children’s ministry and outreach ministry. Her heart is deeply embedded in a program she manages called Friendship Bible Study. For eight years, she has gathered developmentally-disabled persons from her community and a local nursing home for a night of friendship, love and learning.
Thonja has a Bachelor of Science degree from Anderson University. She has also had training with The International Center, focusing on “Leadership Across Cultures.” She attended the Leadership Academy of Madison County (LAMC) last year and is eager to continue learning.
Thonja has been married to Gary for more than 23 years. They have three children and currently have eight grandchildren, whom they love dearly. She has instilled the joy of giving back to the community through her family, as they are often involved in the activities.
Thonja has lived in Anderson since she was 10 years old and loves the community and will continue working to make it better. Anderson Proud!
