Nohemi Lugo has been the Director of the Hispanic Program for the YWCA Domestic Violence Intervention and Prevention Program for the last 22 years. She has a passion to help those that are the most vulnerable in our community by presenting her clients with options to be free of violence.
She offers case management, legal assistance with issues such as protective orders, immigration help, child support, custody, and more. She leads the support group in Spanish called “Reflexiones”, which is open to the community and is making a great impact in the lives of Hispanic women.
She is a great support for Hispanic communities in Tippecanoe and the surrounding counties as a representative on boards, interpreter for the court system, and by teaching parenting classes in Spanish. She also leads the Fountain/Warren Social Services Network group. She is a jack of all trades, and an indispensable part of the domestic violence program.
She strongly believes that victims have the capacity and strength to be able to live free of violence and that the YWCA is here to help them make that a reality in their lives and their children’s lives.
She is currently the Vice-Chair for the Human Relations Commission for the City of Lafayette. In this role, she can implement ideas to eliminate discrimination in the City of Lafayette. She was part of passing the Resolution Declaring Racism as a Public Health crisis in Tippecanoe County.
In 2019 she was presented with the “Outstanding Domestic Violence Professional” award by the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence of the State of Indiana. She has also received the Advocacy Award from The Latino Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence for her work in the community.
