Monisha Mitchell is a lifelong Hoosier. She grew up on the north side of Indianapolis. She graduated from Pike High School. She has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Indiana University and a Graduate Certificate in Public Management from the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She completed her Masters in Social Work and went on to obtain a clinical license.
Even as a young adult, Monisha gravitated to leadership roles. While in college, she was president of the local chapter of her sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc.. She was Class President of her graduate school class and a member of the Indiana University School of Social Work Alumni Board. More recently, she served on the board of Zionsville Mom’s Group. Professionally, she has over a decade of leadership experience in dynamic organizations. She has held such roles as Vice-President of programs leading a staff of over 100, Regional Director of Psychosocial Services for 6 sites of an Integrated Medical Practice in New York and Clinical Manager of a local group home.
Monisha is the founder and President of Monisha Mitchell, LCSW LLC. She has 17 years experience as a mental health therapist. She specializes in trauma and mood disorders. She also serves as a consultant in diversity, equity and inclusion. She founded her company to bring healing to the wounds left by trauma, both individual and collective including those left by racist harm.
Monisha says her hobby is advocacy. She advocates for diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice in her community. With her background in Criminal Justice, she currently serves on the Zionsville Police Department Use of Force Board. She also serves as an Ambassador for the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce. In both roles, she is committed to ensuring the perspectives of marginalized voices are heard. She advocates for mental health. As a consultant, she worked with a bi-partisan group of community leaders to develop the Zionsville Alliance for Mental Wellness. Since being diagnosed with a rare congenital heart condition, she also advocates for heart health and healthcare equity. Monisha has served as a volunteer for local campaigns including Naomi Bectold and State Senator J.D. Ford.
When she isn’t working, she can often be found on Main Street shopping at the farmers market or engaging in one of the many community events in Zionsville. She attends Trader’s Point Church. She is a proud resident of Zionsville where she lives with her 6 year old son, Braxton, not far from her adult children Tim and Camryn, son-in-law and granddaughter. Her parents still live in the neighborhood where she grew up.
