Michelle Carr

Michelle Carr has been a lifelong resident of Columbus, Indiana. Michelle has worked in the customer service industry for the majority of her career.  She took this passion in serving others and in 2014 she ventured into pre-k education, eventually focusing on helping kids with learning disabilities. The knowledge she gained from these experiences only increased her passion to serve her community.

Michelle carried a lifelong passion about the environment, with a single goal to make the world a better place for her family, friends, and neighbors. When her life placed her into a position that she needed to be at home and be more to be available for her family, she began searching for small ways to make a large impact. It was at this time she first discovered the power of social media.  With little experience in the field of social media, she searched for like-minded spirits and joined groups that aligned with her passions. Through multiple grassroots efforts, she worked to help amplify their voices and make connections with those doing the work.

Since 2016, she has been very active in volunteering in organizations that range from local to national levels. She actively volunteers with nonprofit grassroots organizations that are working to the betterment of our community, state and country, such as Hoosier Chapter Sierra Club, Winding Waters Sierra Club, Energy Matters Community Coalition, Climate Reality Leaders and Bartholomew County Democratic Party. What started as a small opportunity to learn social media and give voice to the voiceless, turned into using her abilities to help these groups extend their outreach and stand up for the rights of others.

Michelle currently serves on the Hoosier Chapter Sierra Club’s Executive Committee, starting in 2017.  Through her effective volunteerism and leadership, she was elected as their Vice Chair and served from Jan 2019 – Dec 2021. She has served as the Hoosier Chapter’s Communication Chair since August 2019. She is also served on Sierra Club’s local Winding Waters Group Executive Committee since 2016. Where the Hoosier Chapter focuses to help the state’s environment, Winding Waters Group works within the community and supporting initiatives that directly impacts her neighbors.

Michelle has been very active with the local Democratic Party since 2016 which includes her becoming their social media director in 2017. She took on the role of precinct committee chairperson in 2018 and was elected to that position in 2022. She was elected as the Vice Chair to the Bartholomew County Democratic Party in April 2022. During her time serving she has supported campaigns, organized events and rallies, designed parade floats and worked to help her community.

Michelle believes that leaders serve best when they work for solutions that are advocated by those who they are trying to help.  She also leads by the motto that she can’t ask someone to do something that she isn’t willing to do. She has lent her voice to those who have been dealt an injustice as well as those who have had their rights threatened. Michelle is committed to continuing her work as a leader and striving to help empower others to take on roles that will also work for the betterment of our community, state and country.
