As a lifelong public servant, Melissa Moore (Morehead) has spent her career empowering and encouraging all whom she has had contact with throughout the years. After graduating from Benjamin Bosse High School, located in Evansville, Indiana, she started her journey with the United States Navy (active duty). Upon receiving an honorable discharge after 9.5 years of service, her Hoosier roots and family ties called her back to Evansville, Indiana in 2000. Since her return, her mission has been to empower all whom she encounters, encourage all whom she meets, and be highly effective with the assignments in and around the community.
Melissa sits on the Board of Directors for Legal Aid Society, Potters’ Wheel Ministries, Carver Board, and Evansville Vanderburgh Community Schools Foundation. She also serves in the capacity of Secretary for the Vanderburgh County Democratic Party, and serves as the Chairwoman with the Social Status of African American Males, a member of the NAACP where she chairs the Women In NAACP and Veterans division of the local chapter. She is also active in a grassroots organization, And How Are the Children.
Melissa has volunteered for several political campaigns and ran for EVSC School Board Trustee in Evansville, Indiana. Melissa has a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership from the University of Evansville. She is also a graduate of Leadership Evansville (now known as Leadership Everyone), a program which brings together individuals that continue to make an impact in and around their community. Melissa is also a graduate of Hoosier Women Forward, Class 4 2021-2022.
She is also a 2017-2018 recipient of the University of Evansville Office of Diversity Initiatives UEAAA Mentor of the Year Award. She is the current recipient (November 2021) of the highest and most prestigious award from the City of Evansville, the Sadelle Berger Award from the Mayor’s Diversity Council and nominee for the Celebration of Leadership of Evansville.
With the passion that she has for empowering and encouraging, she is also a Fear Fighter Life Coach who helps women get over the one thing that holds them back from being their better self. She is the CEO/Founder of Melissa Morehead, LLC, a coaching/consulting company that specializes in developing and effectively strengthening organizations and businesses. She is also a Community Outreach Coach that helps companies reach out to broader communities.
Melissa is the Co-Founder and Co-Host of a podcast titled, Trashed It! This podcast helps women break down barriers and the stigmas that are associated with women on a daily basis.
In her downtime, she loves reading, cooking, and journaling. Melissa lives in Evansville and is the mother of 3 children, Ashley, James, and Branden, aunt to her lovely niece, Hannah, and fur-niece Hollie, and grandmother to Marlee Lynn.
