A partner at the law firm of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP, Kristina (“Kris”) Wheeler represents utilities, renewable energy developers, municipalities, executives, and government officials on a myriad of issues`. Kris has practiced law for 25 years before state and federal courts and numerous regulatory bodies, including the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Prior to being in private law practice, Kris served as vice president and staff counsel for Indiana Municipal Power Agency, a nonprofit public power agency that serves 60 municipalities. Her experience also includes eight years as general counsel for the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC), leading the legal department for the state utility regulatory agency.
Kris was born in Indianapolis and grew up in Irvington. A sixth-generation Hoosier from a family of teachers, Kris also has an Indiana State Teacher’s License (inactive). She graduated with her B.S. with distinction in Education from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1995, and a J.D. from IU’s McKinney School of Law in 1998.
Kris is an active community volunteer, serving as: the Immediate Past-President of the Indiana State Bar Association Utility Law Section; the Vice President of Compliance and Board Secretary for the Carmel Education Foundation; a Habitat for Humanity Women’s Build top fundraising team and site build volunteer; community and church volunteer at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church; and on various PTO Executive Boards.
For nearly twenty years, Carmel has been Kris’s home. Her elderly father, Steven Kern, now resides with Kris and her two daughters. Kris’s mom Sandy is a retired Kindergarten teacher, and requires 24-hour care at a dementia facility. The unwavering support of Kris’s parents throughout her life has now come full circle, as she embraces the responsibility of being their caretaker.
Kristina (“Kris”) Wheeler is running for an 2024 at-large seat on the Carmel Clay School Board. As school board member, Kris will use her experience as an attorney, business owner, teacher, parent, church member, PTO leader and community volunteer to represent the best interests of the entire City of Carmel.
