Crystal G. Melton, a native of Hammond, IN, is a wife and mother of 4 children. She attended Donald E. Gavit Jr./ Sr. High School where she graduated valedictorian. She obtained her B.A. in Political Science from Northwestern University in 2004. In 2013, she went back to school to further her education and received an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.
She started a career in banking in 2005 as a Banking Center Manager for a local bank. While in banking, she developed an interest in Human Resources and took a position at NIPSCO as a Contract Specialist in the Labor Relations Department. She was later promoted and is currently leading the Timekeeping Department. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Ivy Tech Community College.
A servant leader, Crystal gives her time, talent and resources to help people in her community. She is the board President of City Life Center, an organization that helps families to thrive and mitigate risk while enhancing healthy development for youth. She also serves on the Board of the Miller Community Fund. Crystal is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Gary Alumnae Chapter and The Northwest Indiana Chapter of The Links Inc., where she serves as Treasurer. She volunteers in various initiatives throughout Northwest Indiana and is a lifetime member of the NAACP.
In support of her husband’s, State Senator Eddie Melton, efforts in the legislature, Crystal is also a member and 2nd Vice President of the Indiana State Assembly Club. The club is for spouses of legislatures and judges who engage in social, educational and cultural activities. She enjoys spending time with her family and in her leisure reading a good book.
