Carey LaBella is a lifelong Hoosier, dedicated mother of four children, and loving wife to Jason. Carey has woven her passion for family, education, and community into the fabric of her life. Carey holds an extensive educational background, earning both a B.S. & M.A. in English Literature from Indiana State University, as well as a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Drexel University. Her academic pursuits reflect her commitment to lifelong learning and intellectual curiosity.
Professionally, Carey has served her community with the Vigo County Public Library since 2013; most recently as a Collection Development Librarian, curating resources to enrich the community’s access to knowledge and literature. Carey has served multiple years on the Indiana Library Federation’s Intellectual Freedom Committee, promoting access to libraries across the state.
In addition to her career, Carey is deeply involved in her community. She has been an active member of the Vigo County School Board of Trustees since 2023, advocating for quality education and the well-being of students across the district. Carey is also dedicated to volunteerism and philanthropy, serving as co-chair for the Strong Neighborhood council with United Way of the Wabash Valley to strengthen local communities and working with 100+ Women Who Care Vigo County to benefit local charities and initiatives. As Girl Scouts of Central Indiana troop leader, Carey mentors young women and instills values of leadership and community service. She also volunteers with Scouting America, supporting youth development through outdoor education and leadership activities.
Beyond these professional and volunteer roles, Carey enjoys exploring Indiana’s parks, attending sporting events and enjoying local theater productions with her family, fostering a love for adventure and togetherness. Carey LaBella embodies the spirit of Indiana hospitality and resilience, dedicating her life to fostering education, community, and family values in her beloved Hoosier state.
