Alexis Watts is an Indianapolis native and public affairs leader who brings over a decade of experience in healthcare, education, and government to her advocacy work. Deeply committed to equity and justice, she champions systemic change rooted in community voice and lived experience.
As Executive Director of the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus, Alexis leads policy strategy, constituent engagement, and statewide advocacy efforts to uplift Black Hoosiers. She is known for her bold voice, collaborative spirit, and purpose-driven leadership.
Alexis earned her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Ball State University. She then went on to complete a Certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and a Master of Public Affairs at Indiana University’s Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Her work spans grassroots organizing, policy development, and mentorship, with a strong focus on education, mental health, housing, and family empowerment.
She joined Hoosier Women Forward to collaborate with Indiana’s most dynamic changemakers and continue advancing bold, inclusive leadership. Guided by the words of Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to the U.S. Congress and a trailblazing presidential candidate, “I am and always will be a catalyst for change”, Alexis embodies the power of purposeful advocacy and community-centered progress.
