Born and raised in Lake County Indiana, Amy Blaker is a proud life-long resident of the Region. As far back as she can remember, Amy has always had a strong interest in politics and government. She previously worked for the Indiana State Democratic Party and as a federal caseworker for Congressman Pete Visclosky. She continues to be active in the Democratic Party as a member of both the Lake County Women’s Democratic Club and the Hessville Democratic Club. She was also selected as an Indiana Democratic Party Emerging Leader in 2014.
Amy serves on the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels of Northwest Indiana where she holds the role of Board Secretary. She also chairs the Administration Committee and has served on the Steering Committee for the past 3 years for the Heels for Meals fundraiser. In addition, she makes it her mission to deliver Meals on Wheels several times a year.
Through her devotion to organizations whose missions align with her sense of compassion and empathy, Amy regularly volunteers with local non-profits. She rings the Salvation Army bell every holiday season for their Red Kettle Campaign, as well as volunteers as needed with other local organizations. Amy has served on the Steering Committee for the Legacy Foundation’s On the Table initiative and also recently completed the Strosacker Early Learning Fellowship through Purdue University Northwest. In 2020, she joined the Hobart Humane Society as member of their Board of Directors.
Maintaining a strong network between the non-profit and the business sector, Amy is a member of several area Chambers of Commerce and has completed the Valparaiso Leadership Academy through the Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce. Amy is also an Advisory Board Member for the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University Northwest.
Taking an active role in community outreach, Amy serves on the Executive Board for the Munster Junior Women’s Club, a 501c(3) service organization that raises funds for other non-profits and volunteers in the community. In this role, she has helped raise thousands of dollars for local, state, national and international non-profit organizations.
In recognition of her commitment to public service, Amy was honored as a recipient of the Times Media Company’s 20 Under 40 in Business Award in 2017.
Amy is a graduate of Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Public Relations. She earned her Master of Public Affairs in 2018 in the prestigious SPEA program at Indiana University Northwest.
She is currently employed as a Client Service Manager at Lochmueller Group, a Midwest regional consulting firm with an emphasis on planning and designing state and local infrastructure improvements. This role allows her to continue her strong commitment to improving the quality of life for residents in Northwest Indiana.
